This summer, Bx’Elles and Skatoria are joining forces to create a unique project where skateboarding meets DIY construction. Over three weekends, we’ll work together to build a skate obstacle from scratch while developing skate skills, exploring different skateparks, and discovering DIY skate culture.
Participants will learn the basics of skate obstacle construction, including how to prepare wooden forms, use common construction tools safely, and pour a skateable surface using the paper concrete (Rotafibra) technique. Along the way, we’ll visit local skateparks, share knowledge, and learn from one another.
No previous experience in skateboarding or construction is needed. Whether you’re stepping on a skateboard for the first time or already skating regularly, this camp is designed to be a welcoming space to learn new skills, get your hands dirty, and create something together. It is also an opportunity for women and the queer community to explore DIY construction in a supportive environment, helping make a traditionally male-dominated scene more accessible and welcoming.
By the end of the program, we’ll have built a skate obstacle as a team—and, of course, we’ll get to skate it together.
