In the winter of 2021, we had a crazy idea. LET’S BUILD A MINIRAMP!
At the previous Allee Du Kaai was an old and broken miniramp full of dog poop. It was clear that it needed some love. We were determined to bring this miniramp back to life and so our first big build together started. None of us really had the skills or know-how, but it was more than building a perfect miniramp. It was us, showing that we can do this to everyone who doubted it.
Each Sunday, we met up at Allee Du Kaai to work, fail and learn together. Step by step, we learned how to use machines, take measurements, figure out which wood needs to be bought and what can be re-used. Once the word was out that we were building a miniramp, friends came to help and bring good vibes. When the miniramp was finally finished, we decided to have a festive opening event where we handed out pizza slices for tricks on the miniramp and show our very own ‘Queen Of The Road’ skate video.
One of the powers that BX’elles has is making everything we do fun. Even when we’re building a miniramp, there is time for good talks, having a drink and laughter together. I can’t remember a day during this build that we didn’t do a BBQ to thank everyone who helped.
Coming together and building this miniramp also meant building our community.
